I met Kathy in 1999 at the Washington Horse Expo. I started out with lessons and then she said, she was going to offer an apprenticeship. So being the horse crazy girl I was, I said yes. I started with my 4 year old Arab Sequoia, becoming a horse trainer was all I wanted to do.
I grew up on horseback with my Dad and sisters. I took lessons under more traditional trainers and was not sure why I did some of the things we did. My Dad said "You only get to ride one horse. If you don't figure it out, you don't deserve to be a trainer."
Kathy was my make it or break it moment. Sequoia and I started the apprenticeship. Kathy has a gift of explaining the exercises and why we do them. Under her guidance I learned feel, patience and how to be a strong, kind leader.
I was 19 years old when we met, now I am 36 years old and she has become so much more then a trainer. I honestly do not think I would be the trainer or person I am today if it wasn't for Kathy and her friendship. Kathy has continued to help me over the years, She gives her all when you have her as your instructor and trainer. Kathy has become one of my closest friends. She is kind to all and stands up for what she believes in, I love her for that.
My life is blessed to have Kathy in it. Kathy has always been honest with me and pushes me to be my best. She is generous with her knowledge and life experiences. She is willing to share her love of horses with all. Amillia my daughter is fortunate to own a horse of Kathy's and has been excelling in the horse world with Fancy. Kathy is truely a gift to the horse world, with her gift of horsemanship, understanding and the ability to instruct others.
I have enjoyed watching Kathy grow over the years in her ability to teach and train. Her newest love of reining has opened a new avenue to learn and help others and their horses. The show and reining world can be a tuff one, but under Kathy's guidance your horse will be willing and sane! You will learn to be a thoughtful horseman and together you will do great things.
Thank you Kathy for all you have done in my life and now my children's. May God continue to bless your days.
It was apparent upon first meeting Kathy that she was the right fit for me, my horse and our struggles and goals.
Kathy has a very calming, confident presence, is extremely knowledgeable and is an outstanding and forgiving teacher.
I appreciate her honesty and her passion for what she does.
My equine partner and I had the opportunity to attend one of her clinics last October and it was top notch. She helps you set obtainable goals
and gives you concrete steps to get there. I left the clinic feeling refreshed in my equine passion and hopeful and excited about what the future holds.
Kathy has an outstanding facility and a positive atmosphere to go with it. I met so many good people there. It was an excellent experience.
Kathy, I want to thank-you for coming out and doing the clinic, it was great. I enjoyed it immensely. I learned so much over the weekend, it was also great watching and feeling Willow responding to the cue’s. It finally clicked in my head what I was doing wrong and what I needed to do to correct it. She was very soft and wasn’t as confused as to what I was asking. It also made it enjoyable to ride her. I’ve been working Willow and am now able to get a canter very easily now. The things I’ve learned from you have made me a better rider, it’s appreciated.
The main thing I want to thank you for, even though thank you seems inadequate. I don’t know if you’re aware of what a difference your mentoring Katie has done for her. It has really built her confidence in all aspects of her life. She struggled in school because of her dyslexia, and didn’t get much support from her teachers. In fact one teacher told us that she didn’t see much of a future for Katie. We pulled her out and home schooled from then until highschool, most of what she learned at home centered around horses. The opportunity to participate in your first apprenticeship program helped her blossom as a young woman. As her father I can’t even begin to describe the joy I get from watching her work with her horse and others who are struggling getting their horses to respond in a positive way. I know God put’s people in our lives to help us grow and mature, you have been one such person in the life of my daughter, for that I am forever grateful!
